An unemployed construction worker heading out west stops at a remote farm in the desert to get water when his car overheats. The farm is being worked by a group of East European Catholic nuns, headed by the strict mother superior, who believes the man has been sent by God to build a much needed church in the desert.
Editor's Verdict
"The movie 'Lilies of the Field' is not set during the Christmas season, nor does the plot revolve around Christmas events. While it strongly features themes of faith, charity, and building something for a community—themes often associated with Christmas—the narrative focus is on religious perseverance and community building unrelated to the holiday itself."
