Villainous Gru lives up to his reputation as a despicable, deplorable and downright unlikable guy when he hatches a plan to steal the moon from the sky. But he has a tough time staying on task after three orphans land in his care.

"While the core plot of 'Despicable Me' is about Gru stealing the moon and adopting orphans, a significant portion of the third act, particularly the climax and resolution, is explicitly tied to Gru's actions involving the children during Christmas. The movie uses the spirit of giving and family transformation inherently associated with Christmas to drive Gru's ultimate change of heart, even if the main plot (moon theft) isn't Christmas-themed."
