As a 13-year-old, fledgling writer Briony Tallis irrevocably changes the course of several lives when she accuses her older sister's lover of a crime he did not commit.
Editor's Verdict
"While 'Atonement' is not primarily a Christmas movie, the foundational events that set the entire tragic narrative in motion—the crucial misunderstanding and accusation—take place explicitly during a hot summer day in 1935. However, the film opens and closes with sequences explicitly framed by Christmas (Briony's reflections and her final act of atonement in the 1960s), and the thematic core of redemption strongly aligns with Christmas ideals. Due to the significant, albeit not majority, framing elements centered on reflection and atonement during the holiday season, it lands in the 'KINDA' category."
